Since 2020 the initiative has reviewed more than 6,700 nominations, awarded $33 million in grants across five categories and built a cohort of 75 finalists worldwide. Finalists have reportedly avoided or captured 18 million tons of CO2e, helped protect or restore 580,000 km² of land and freshwater and 850,000 km² of ocean and coastline, and improved air for regions home to 600 million people.
William warned the planet "does not have time for inch-by-inch change," saying history will judge what was done. The next Earthshot Prize week is scheduled for Mumbai this November.
